MONDAY 5:30-6:30 INFORMATION SHEET

HIP HOP/JAZZ

2010-2011 DANCE YEAR

1. Please use the front-right, fenced-outside entrance to bring your dancer to class. Dancers should proceed down the outside entryway and enter the dance studio into the dressing room/changing area. NO SHOES ARE EVER allowed in this area. CAUTION: Because this is a dressing room only dancers are permitted into this area.

2. One dance bag with first and last name on the outside of the dancing bag. The dance bag should be large enough to carry all necessary dance items.

3. Dance attire consists of any color leotard, tights, booty shorts, legwarmers, black leather (not patent leather) tap oxfords (they lace up the front), black ballet shoes. Because instructors need to see movement of the body, tight-fitting dance clothes are necessary. A dress code is strictly enforced. You may also purchase these items (with the exception of child-sized legwarmers) at Deb’s Dancewear in the Rimrock Mini Mall or Reiter’s Marina, 450 Main Street, 252-9341 (ask for Bonnie). Reiter's is giving a 20% discount on all retail dance supplies from now until October 30, 2010.

For more detailed information, go to:http://rimviewdancestudio.com/dancerinformation.php

4. Hair should be off the face and neck. A braided bun that is secured with long bobby pins works the best. This is strictly enforced.

5. No jewelry in class. No fingernail polish (please)

6. After the first six weeks, Moms may observe the class. The privilege is for moms only because sometimes daddies make the girls uncomfortable. If your dancer hasn’t seen you all day, please do not stay as your appearance may be too distracting. No other relatives, families or friends may attend or watch any dance classes.

7. Do not come into the studio while class is in session. If you do stay, please do so at the beginning of class.

8. Your dancer will be brought out to the front entrance as soon as class has ended. If you haven’t arrived when class is dismissed, please come into the front waiting area and your dancer will be waiting for you. Your dancer will never be left alone without adult supervision.

9. Mothers may attend any class for which your child is registered; but after you and your child are comfortable, do not stay for every class. Your appearance at every class is too distracting for not only your dancer but also the others.

10. If your child has to miss a class for ANY reason, please call prior to this class and let me know. If you miss more than two classes in a row, it is especially important to contact me. If you decide to discontinue classes at the RimView Dance Studio, please notify Miss Lynda in writing or by E-Mail as you are charged for all classes until this notification is received.

IMPORTANT NOTE: At this age, the young dancers are making friends and doing lots of socializing. Therefore, if your dancer misses too many classes, the other girls simply forget about her because she’s not around. At that point, your daughter will feel like she doesn’t have any friends at dance. All of this can be avoided by regular attendance. Instructors will meet with any parent whose dancer has missed three weeks in a row. At that time, it will be determined as to whether or not another schedule will work for the benefit of the dancer.

If a dancer misses more than four classes in a row and is still planning on being in the recital, a private class(es) will be schedule for her to “catch up” on the choreography. The cost is $50/hour. If this dancer was in a competition class, she would not be permitted to compete during the 2010-2011 dance year.

11. Have your dancer prepared to go to class on “dancing day.” At this age, they love the responsibility of “getting ready.” Help them to help themselves. Encourage your dancer to make friends; dress appropriately; use her best manners; be kind and smile. This is not only good “stage” advice but good social skills to learn.

12. Your dancer may bring treats to class and be the “Sweet Dancer.” However, treats must be individually wrapped.

13. When cold weather arrives, label your dancer’s outdoor wear (boots, gloves, hats, mittens, coats, snow pants). Please check out “Lost and Found” if you are missing something.

14. Because the RDS family is "going green," sign in as a follower on the RDS blogspot:http:rimviewdancestudio.blogspot.comIn this way, as daily postings are made, you will receive them instantly to your gmail account (sign up for a gmail E-Mail athttp://www.gmail.com).

**Each RDS dancing family will be assigned a "password" that will direct you to a safe and secure site whereby you will have access to your personal account. The password will be your dancer's (or in the case of more than one dancer in a family, the eldest dancer) MIDDLE NAME, DAY AND DATE OF BIRTH (for example, marie0307).

15. If your child is ill, please keep them at home. If they are just grumpy, bring them! We’ll get them in a good mood!

16. This class has several “Designated Mothers.” These are mothers unselfishly attend every class so that they can help this group backstage at performances. The dancers get to know them and are very comfortable. A “Designated Mother” is not a “new” mom but one who has had a child in this class for at least one year. Designated Mothers are just as important as the teachers. On that note, please be kind and respectful to all Designated Mothers as we are all working for the benefit of the kids.

21. All students in this class will learn two dance numbers for the dance recital. However, students do not have to dance in both numbers because of the additional expense for a second costume.

They will not even know they are not dancing in two numbers but you will need to be prepared to tell them why not. When it comes time to purchase costumes, you may purchase one or both. All students will be prepared to dance and to perform the tap number. Tap and jazz are closely related; however, a tap dancer can do jazz but a jazz dancer cannot necessarily do tap. Therefore, the option you have is to whether or not your dancer will be doing the jazz number.

21. On the front of this sheet is a picture of last year’s costume. You are responsible for your daughter’s dance costume. The costume will consist of not only the costume itself but a faux (fake) hairpiece, hairbows, tap shoe bows, tights and whatever else is needed to complete “the look.” A $60 non-refundable costume deposit (per costume; 2 costumes = $120) is due on November 2, 2010. REMINDER: This is a "deposit." The final balance is due in February, 2011. Expect to pay at least $300/year for complete costumes if dancers are in two numbers. Costumes consist of and/or costume, hairpiece, earrings, tights, nude leotard, nude bra, hairbows and accessories.

Costumes will be ordered in November in order to receive them for the photo session (April 30, 2011). Mark your calendars now.

22. If your address and/or telephone number changes, please let me know immediately.

23. If you change your last name due to marriage, please let me know. If your marital status changes at any time during the year, please let me know immediately.

24. If there are any situations that I need to know that may cause your child distress (divorce, death, illness), please let me know immediately.

25. Your dancer will not be allowed to go home with anyone other than those that you have registered.

26. Most importantly -- Have fun with us! Dancing and teaching kids our LIFE. It is what we have been trained extensively to do. If you have a question, ask away!
